What is Beautiful?

I have thought about these words a lot, "What is beautiful?" I then look deep within myself and wonder if it's the outside that makes a person beautiful or is it what matters what is on the inside that matters. As a mom of a five year old girl it's important to me to help my daughter know she is beautiful because there will be a time where she won't believe she is. How do I know that she will feel that way because I do not believe that I am beautiful as do most women who I have talked to. They all can list what they think makes a person beautiful but do not see themselves as beautiful. So how can we mother's help our daughters feel beautiful in the world that is so complicated with thoughts and meaning of beautiful.
I went on a search on different sites to help see what is out there that is telling us women beauty is. Dictionary.com defines beautiful, "having beauty; possessing qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, think abou…

Book Review: Marriage Illustrated with Crappy Pictures by Amber Dusick

Image
In this book, "Marriage Illustrated by Crappy Pictures" by Amber Dusick, is about Amber's marriage and funny things that happen in almost every marriage. She goes through what marriage is like during fights and having kids. It has the best "crappy pictures" through out the book. Make sure to check out her blog, "illustrated with Crappy Pictures."

I was not asked to give this review, but I loved this book. This book was so funny that many times I had to tell my husband one of the stories because I was laughing so hard. It's one of those books that is so easy to get through because it's such an easy read and it's so funny. There are parts that I was like I can totally get it. Also it's nice to know I am not alone when it comes to certain things my husband does. I recommend this book as well as her blog to everyone.

Book Review: Ruby the Red Fairy by Daisy Meadows

Image
In the book, "Ruby the Red Fairy" by Daisy Meadows, the girls Rachel and Kristy meet for the first time on an island vacation. They find out that there are seven rainbow fairies missing and they need to help rescue the fairies to help Fairyland.

My daughter loved this book. We finally read the first book about all the fairies. The only thing we wished was to be able to find more then one fairy per book. We loved the pictures in this book and how there are several pictures per chapter. I wish the connection with the girls were stronger and had more depth to them. I recommend this book to five year old girls.

My Breastfeeding Journey

I have always wanted to breastfeed my children growing up. I knew my mom breastfed me because I heard the stories of her joining a breastfeeding group. I watched my sister-in-law, and two sisters breastfeed their daughters. I even heated up breastmilk in a bottle and give it to my nephews growing up. So, I always pictured myself breastfeeding my own children. I knew all the benefits and even wrote papers talking about it. So when I was pregnant with my daughter I did even more research and knew I was going to breastfeed my daughter. I was going to have this perfect experience and she was going to nurse till at least a year old.

Ahh...that did not happen. Ginny was born at 36 weeks because of pre-e and by c-section after me laboring for hours. Ginny came out with nice deep red color to her skin and was put straight on my chest. She was sound asleep in my arm and was no rooting no matter what she wanted to sleep. I decided she would start to root when she got hungry. Sure enough she sta…

Book Review: The Human Body by Carron Brown & Rachael Saunders

Image
I had the pleasure to have my first Usbourn facebook party over the summer. I had a blast at my party and I was able to get several books for my kids to get for Christmas. I choose to get this book, "The Human Body" by Carron Brown & Rachael Saunders because I am all for educational and reading. So this book I thought my kids would love to read.

This book is considered A Shine-A-Light book which means that your child will need a flashlight to go with it to shine through the pages. In this book, it talks about the human body. It has some really neat facts about the human body for kids to understand such as how we get our fingerprints. It talks about each systems in our body. The children shine a light through one page and can see a hidden picture of the systems. Here is a video about the books, "Shine-A-Light."

My kids love this book from my one year old to my five year old. They always beg to read this book as a family. They also fight over who gets to shine …

Book Review: Demon Lover by Juliet Dark

Image
In the book, The Demon Lover by Juliet Dark :Since accepting a teaching position at a remote Fairwick College in upstate New York, Callie McFay has experienced the same disturbingly sensual dreams every night: a mist enters her bedroom, then takes the shape of a virile, seductive stranger who proceeds to ravish her. Perhaps these dreams are the result of her having written the bestselling book The Sex Lives of Demon Lovers. Callie's passion is the intersection of lurid fairy tales and Gothic literature. Callie soon realizes that her dreams are real. She has a demon lover and he will seduce her, pleasure her, and eventually suck the life from her. She then finds out that Fairwick has colleges and fairies in the surrounding woods. Callie must accomplish something more difficult banishing the demon from her heart.

I was so excited to finally be able to read this book. It's right up my ally in genre that I have found I connect with the most to. Also the cover was the first thing …

Book Review: Alison the Art Fairy by Daisy Meadows

Image
This is another series by Daisy Meadows about fairies and the evil Jack Frost. Jack Frost is at it again in Alison the Art Fairy by Daisy Meadows. Best friend Kirsty and Rachel usually only get to spend vacations and holidays together. For a special week they get to be going to the same school. It's a great thing because Jack Frost is causing trouble again and this time the School Day Fairies need help. Alison the Art Fairy gold art badge is missing and the girls need to find it before art class becomes a total wreck.

My daughter loved this story and the pictures. She loved that it's talking about art class and it's focuses on Jack Frost goblins who are terrible students. I love that it helps my daughter learn bout how girls can save the day and to keep trying no matter what happens. It's an awesome book and we really enjoyed it. Though at times this story was a little slower then the others. I still recommend it to other kids.

Be sure to Check out the Other School Da…

Set Back

This week is hard to get back on track. I have fallen off track of weight loss this week. I stopped drinking my water as much and counting my calories. I feel like why am I doing this all to lose little amount of weight. Then...my walks cease to be happening this week because it's been rainy and the kids haven't felt good, then it was the tire on the stoller. It just seemed like to many things have been telling me to stop doing this. Today, I am sitting here trying not to cry because I know if I don't walk then I can use it as an excuse.

So...I am just feeling lousy...Like I want to give up. It sucks as I am currently at 25lbs weight loss. Far from my goal but yet far enough in. I have to keep going...or it's not going to happen. I just have to keep pushing foward.

Book Review: Giraffes by Catherine Ipcizade

Image
In Giraffes by Catherine Ipcizade  is a non-fiction book about Giraffes. In the book it talks about the African habitat and what they eat. It also talks about their behaviors and even how they sleep at night. It's a book for elementary age kids.

My daughter absolutely loved this book. She picked it out from her school library because of the cover. She thought it was so funny and gross that the giraffes tongue is in its nose. The cover is amazing and so are the pictures though out this book. It has so many neat facts about the giraffes that my daughter loved learning about them. It was in basic text that a child could understand what they were saying through out. It was so neat to learn about them that even I as her parent learned about the giraffes. It's something I would recommend all parents to read to their kids. Also their is vocabulary in the back of the book to help with your kids vocabulary is an awesome plus.

Organizing Tip: Kid Kitchen Storage

Image
Okay, so we have a lack of drawers in our kitchen. With as big as our family is we needed more storage options. So, we were always on a look out for a microwave cart to use for extra storage option. None of them were what we were liking. I finally came up with the plan to go to IKEA and get this storage option. It has four squares and you can buy the other things to add on to it like we did. So we added in one square drawers. In our drawers we have the kids silverware and the kids lids to their million of cups.

Then we added doors to the other three sections. One section has the kids cups and another section has the kids bowls and plates. The last one is just storage for our dehydrator.

I love having everything hidden from the public because I don't have to worry about how clutter it looks on the inside. My older two actually put their own dishes away from the dishwasher as a chore. It's at the perfect height for them to do this. Also it's easy for them to get a fork or …

Weight In

So last week started strong then took a weird turn for the worse. My knee slipped out of place not once but twice on Tuesday. So I was extremely sore and had trouble walking. Then it was my birthday on Friday. I had been feeling really glum and depressed the whole week. I was crying pretty much all day on Friday. So I haven't been counting calories like I should or doing the 30 day. Yesterday, I started up again working out and today I have done the same. Bad thing though my double stroller has a massive flat. Sigh...so not sure what is going to happen this week.

School Standards Headache for Moms

I am sure most of you have heard the words Common Core Standards. Especially if you have a child in public schools. You don't understand the complexity that is these standards and what it all means. You just see what you child brings home and wonder why are they learning it in that grade and not further up. I am one of the lucky few who understand the whole wording of the common core standards. I spent several years studying it for my teaching degree and had to write a million lesson plans using these challenging worded standards. So let me give you a little breakdown on why we now have to subject ourselves, teachers, and our children to these standards.
So way before the Common Core standards, each state had their own standards that the public schools had to follow. Each state could make it to what every they see fit and what the kids need to study. So, students who moved across state lines would either be extremely behind or extremely bored depending on where they moved. Which …

How to Get Three Kids Ready for the Day

Image
I have had people in the past ask me how do you get three kids ready for the day and one of which is autistic. Routines are a huge thing in my house and everything needs to go smoothly especially for Miles because it can set him off and then everything goes down hill fast. So before school started this year I had to come up with a plan. So I came up with a plan and a routine.

We had these three little baskets, one for each kid from Dollar Tree that were suppose to be used for laundry. (Never happened) that were the perfect size for this. I took these three baskets and wrote each child name on them. Then I placed each basket for each child their shoes, socks, pants/shorts/or skirt, shirt, and for my daughter her hair brush and hair ties. The older kids then have their backpacks sitting on top of them once everything they need for school the next day is in it. So when my daughter gets up in the morning she grabs her basket and starts to get ready for the day. Once she dressed she puts h…

Book Reviews: Henry Wants More! by Linda Ashman

Image
In the book, Henry Wants More! by Linda Ashman, is a little boy named Henry. Henry wants more books, more games, more throwing into the air. But Henry's family is tired and just want to rest when he falls asleep.

My three and one year old loved this book. They were excited to be Henry by yelling more. I loved the pictures in the story and how they told the story. I also love the concept of this book because as I parent I hear the word more all the time. I think this book would be best for a year old and younger.

I would recommend this book.

The Tale of the Missing Socks

Image
I often question myself on certain days on why I do not fold clothes right when they come out of the drier. Are they too hot? Did I not think I was going to have enough time? So, I came to these questions when I realized that it was time to fold laundry again. By this time we had not basket, not two but four baskets of laundry that is clean...but not folded or hung. So, it needed to be done and at that moment the house was basically doing good on not being torn up by children. So, I put myself to the task. I separated the children's clothes from the adults and went to town. Each sock I found, I did a silent cheer and put them in a bin that somehow became the missing sock bin for our children's socks. I finally finished folding the millions of laundry in two hours. It might have not taken two hours if I didn't have to refold clothes from a certain toddler that unfolded them.

I sent my daughter to carefully put her own clothes away in her drawers while I did both of the boys…

Book Review: Wake Up Sun! by David L. Harrison

Image
In the book, Wake Up Sun! by David L. Harrison there is a dog that wakes up early which is like most kids in the middle of the night. He then wakes up the whole barnyard because he is scared that the sun is missing.

This is such a cute story and my kids who have woken up in the middle of the night have thought the same thing as the dog. The sun is missing and then they get scared and worried that it will never be day time again. This book really reminded me of my household. It's always one kid who wakes up way to early and wakes up the whole house. So for me this was such a very true story. My son loved this book more then I thought he did. He giggled that the dog was so worried about the sun missing. He also loved looking at the pictures of each of the animals.

I recommend this to all parents with a toddler and early school age child.

Book Review: Lacey the Little Mermaid Fairy (The Fairy Tale Fairies #7) by Daisy Meadows

Image
So right now my daughter who is five is really into magical beings. We just started to touch in chapter books with her and she loves it. Anyways, she has a few of the fairy books but none of them in order. We decided to borrow some from the library and came across,Lacey the Little Mermaid Fairy by Daisy Meadows. This book is number 7 of The Fairy Tale Fairies.

In this book you get to follow the main characters Rachel and Kirsty who are humans and they get to attend a special fairy tale festival at a castle. That is when the evil goblin Jack Frost steals Lacey's magic conch shell and the fairy can't get home or even finish her fairy tale.

So my daughter and I are not reading these books in order but we are enjoying them so far. My daughter loves the book and wants to read more then a chapter every night. She loves to look at the pictures that are throughout the story to help her imagine what is going on. She laughed when she finally found out that Jack Frost was a goblin himse…

Book Review: Dinosaurs are Having a Party! by Gareth P Jones

Image
In the Dinosaurs are Having a Party! by Gareth P. Jones, it's about a boy that is not a dinosaur himself was invited to a party that is planned and run by dinosaurs. Though the dinosaurs invited him for one reason only and it's not to party with....

This story had some really funny parts to and the pictures were wonderful. My son enjoyed looking at the picture but we both felt the story was lacking something through out. Such as what was the basis of the boy being invited to the party. Why did the boy go to the party in the first place and really there was no ending. All of sudden the boy sees a certain dinosaur and he is out of the building really quickly. It just seemed like it was lacking depth through the whole story even for a children's book. My three year old was pretty bored through out other then liking the pictures.

I wouldn't recommend this book to other parents at all.

Image
I call these my service cookies because anything that needs cookies such as visiting teaching, when your child gets home from school, funerals, visiting friends, family in town, visiting a sick friend, taking cookies for the teacher, bake sales.
